Parent Alienation Child Coercive Control

Parental Alienation Awareness Day Australia and New Zealand

The absence of physical violence doesn't mean the absence of abuse.

#PAADay 12th October 2016 to 2023

International Parental Alienation Awareness Day coincides with our Anzac Day on 25 April in Australia and New Zealand. It would be disrespectful to our Anzacs to promote awareness on this day or the following day with the media coverage from Anzac Day.

On 17 August 2016, the founder, Amanda Sillars, decided we needed to have our official day here in Australia and New Zealand, so she created a poll within the EMMM support group to get their views on whether we should establish our awareness day on the 12 October during Mental Health Week. 99% of the members supported this decision, so we decided to create our official annual Parental Alienation Awareness Day #PAADay.

We launched our first #PAADay on 12 October 2016.

We are calling for Australian law to recognise and respond to child coercive control and alienating behaviours as serious forms of psychological abuse and family violence, particularly where children are manipulated into rejecting safe relationships or where legal and protective systems are misused to intensify that harm.
